Education Day

Maybe some people have forgotten about the education day is celebrated every 2nd of May Previously each dated May 2 in some schools still hold a commemoration of National Education Day with the way the flag ceremony to commemorate the services of the heroes who have fought for education in Indonesia, but over time people started to forget the services of the heroes who have fought for education in this our beloved country.

For education in our country are not necessarily familiar with the name of Ki Hajar Dewantara. He and his colleagues who have fought for education in Indonesia at the old colonial days.
Ki Hajar Dewantara was born in Yogyakarta on May 2, 1889. Born with the name Raden mas Suryadiningrat Suwardi when 40-year-old reckoning Caka year, he changed the name to Ki Hajar Dewantara. Since then he no longer uses knighted in front of his name. This meant that he could freely mix with the commoners.

At that time only a few people who can received his education, only certain groups alone could get education at school. Although he was unable to finish school to finish, but he can work as a journalist known for his work writing and very communicative, actual, and thus can evoke patriotic spirit of anti-colonialism for its readers.

In 1913 he was sent to the Netherlands as part of the implementation of punishment because one of his writings had offended the Dutch government. This opportunity is not wasted him to learn about the problems of education and teaching, so he managed to obtain a certificate Europeesche. In 1918 he and his friends returned to their homeland and establish a college of national print called Tamansiswa Nationaal Onderwijs Instituut (University Tamansiswa) on July 3, 1922.
